Action
As a gastric and pancreatic Lipase inhibitor,Orlistat limits the absorption of dietary fat.
Indication & Dosages
Oral
Obesity-
Adult : 120 mg tid
Omit dosage if meal is occasionally missed or contains no fat.

Special Precaution
Daily intake of Fat to be distributed over 3 main meals. A multivitamin supplement that contains fat-soluable Vitamins to be taken 2 Hrs before or after admin of Orlistat required during long-term therapy. Discontinue therapy., if 5% body weight loss is not achieved during the 1st 12 weeks; should not be taken beyond 2 years
History of hyperoxaluria or Ca oxalate nephrolithiasis child less than 18 years .
Use with cautions in Diabetes & Pregnancy.
Interactions
Decrease absorption of oral fat-soluble Vitamins.May decrease plasma levels of Cyclosporin, Avoid concomitant admin w/ acrabose or anorectic drugs. Elevate plasma concentrations of pravastatin.
Adverse Effects
Fecal Urgency and incontinence, flatulence, fatty stools or discharge, increased defecation; headache anxiety, fatigue, menstrual irregularities, abdominal pain/discomfort, liquid, soft stools, rectal pain/discomfort.
